Valandovo is a town with a significant history and past that left such cultural roots and traditions that make this town an inevitable stop (site) in the interperetation of touring of the cultural past of the country and the region. According to some researches and discoveries, evidences of life can be traced back to 10th-7 th century B.C., that is during the bronze an iron period. There is a setllement known as Mal Konstantinopol (Small Constantinopole) dating since the time of Roman domination, and the life in the Middle Ages is marked by Marco's Tower. Based on expert knowledge, in the vicinity of the town there are two very important archeological cities-The Isar Marvinci and Idomene. Furthermore, very interesting and important discoveries are the ancient mosaics of Valandovo, the necropolis discovered near Dedeli dating since the Iron period, the monastery, the church dedicated to the St.George etc. This Mediterranean region was always a significant crossroad for the passengers and the goods that were travelling from Europe to the Near East. With the construction of the railway Skopje-Gevgelija-Salonica in 1873, and to the highway Skopje-Salonica, this region became a significant transit coridor because it is only 70 km far from Salonica and 145 km from Skopje-the capital of Macedonia. Being a significant crossroad between the North and the South, it is called the European Gate-a very important communication centre in this part of the country.
