Valandovo is a town with a significant history and past that
left such cultural roots and traditions that make this town
an inevitable stop (site) in the interperetation of touring
of the cultural past of the country and the region. According
to some researches and discoveries, evidences of life can
be traced back to 10th-7 th century B.C., that is during the
bronze an iron period. There is a setllement known as Mal
Konstantinopol (Small Constantinopole) dating since the time
of Roman domination, and the life in the Middle Ages is marked
by Marco's Tower. Based on expert knowledge, in the vicinity
of the town there are two very important archeological cities-The
Isar Marvinci and Idomene. Furthermore, very interesting and
important discoveries are the ancient mosaics of Valandovo,
the necropolis discovered near Dedeli dating since the Iron
period, the monastery, the church dedicated to the St.George
etc. This Mediterranean region was always a significant crossroad
for the passengers and the goods that were travelling from
Europe to the Near East. With the construction of the railway
Skopje-Gevgelija-Salonica in 1873, and to the highway Skopje-Salonica,
this region became a significant transit coridor because it
is only 70 km far from Salonica and 145 km from Skopje-the
capital of Macedonia. Being a significant crossroad between
the North and the South, it is called the European Gate-a
very important communication centre in this part of the country.
